In 1899, two lawyers paid a visit to the president of Coca-Cola. At the time, Coke was sold at soda fountains. But the lawyers were interested in this new idea: selling drinks in bottles. The lawyers wanted to buy the bottling rights for Coca-Cola.

The president of Coca-Cola didn't think much of the whole bottle thing. So he made a deal with the lawyers: He'd let them sell Coke in bottles, and he'd sell them the syrup to do it. According to the terms of the deal, the lawyers would be able to buy the syrup at a fixed price. Forever.

The company couldn't actually put price tags on the bottles of Coke saying "5 cents." But it could paint a giant ad on the side of a building right next to the store that says, "Drink Coca-Cola, 5 Cents."

The nickel price had lasted over 70 years. And in retrospect, Andrew Young says, it wasn't a bad thing for the company. It's one reason Coke is everywhere today. The company couldn't raise the price. So it did the only thing it could: It sold as many Cokes as possible.

Radi Nabulsi of UGASports.com reports that Coke bottles are now available. The last time Georgia won the national championship, in 1980, Coca-Cola produced a first-of-its-kind commemorative bottle and accompanying tray. Both became cherished collectibles. This time, Georgia and Coke both announced in the spring that commemorative six pack 8-ounce glass bottles would be available this August, in time to celebrate the fall college football season kickoff.

Nestlé Waters North America said 6% of its bottles are made from recycled plastic. PepsiCo declined to share a percentage, saying only that it grew to 139 million pounds in 2015. A recent Greenpeace report found six of the largest soft drinks companies, excluding Coca-Cola, use a combined average of just 6.6% recycled plastic globally.

In an effort to make the beverage industry less wasteful, his company CarbonLite processes used plastic bottles into new bottle-grade plastic for clients like Nestlé and PepsiCo. Nestlé's Arrowhead spring water, for instance, now makes 90% of its bottles from 50% recycled plastic.

About 6 billion pounds of plastic bottles get thrown away every year, and only about 30% of them are recycled, according to IBISWorld analyst Nate Gelman. Of that 30%, just one-fifth is processed to create fresh plastic bottles for use in food and beverage.

How recycled plastic is repurposed boils down to cost: Converting recycled plastic into fiber for use in apparel and carpeting "is less energy intensive and less laborious" than the process required to convert it to food grade plastic for bottles, Gelman said.

Outdoor clothing maker Patagonia recycles "used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste and worn-out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce clothing," its website states. But it is just one company. Most used clothes, like most plastic bottles, eventually end up in landfills.

The packaging contains the official Georgia Bulldogs national championship logo. The bottles are not printed, but instead have an overwrap that also includes the national championship logo and a picture of Uga wearing a crown.

The bottles are 8-ounces each and are available in six-packs. These bottles were purchased at Kroger in Suwanee, Ga. Other reports online indicate they are trickling out across the metro-Atlanta area.

Please allow 30 days for processing of the application. In addition, before opening a redemption center, you should contact the municipality where you would like to locate your redemption center to ensure compliance with any local zoning and/or business requirements.

In the United States and Canada, Mexican Coca-Cola, or Mexican Coke (Spanish: Coca Cola de Vidrio, English: Glass Coca-Cola, or Coca-Cola in a glass bottle) or, informally, "Mexicoke",[1] refers to Coca-Cola produced in and imported from Mexico.[2] Mexican Coca-Cola is sweetened with white sugar instead of the high-fructose corn syrup[3] used in the U.S. since the early 1980s.[4][5] Some tasters have said that Mexican Coca-Cola tastes better, while other blind tasting tests reported no perceptible differences in flavor.

In 2013, a Mexican Coca-Cola bottler announced it would stop using cane sugar in favor of glucose-fructose syrup.[11] It later clarified this change would not affect those bottles specifically exported to the United States as "Coca-Cola Nostalgia" products.[4]

Mexican Coca-Cola is sold in a thick 355 ml (12.0 US fl oz) or 500 ml (17 US fl oz) glass bottle, which some have contrasted as being "more elegant, with a pleasingly nostalgic shape," compared to the more common plastic American Coca-Cola bottles. Formerly, Coca-Cola was widely available in refundable and non-refundable glass bottles of various sizes in the U.S., but nearly all bottlers began replacing most glass bottles with plastic during the late 1980s.[13] Most exporters of Mexican Coke affix a paper sticker on each bottle containing the nutrition facts label, ingredients, and bottler and/or exporter's contact information, to meet US food labeling requirements.

In a Coca-Cola press release, Scott Trowbridge, the portfolio creative executive and studio leader of Walt Disney Imagineering, said the "Star Wars"-themed bottles will help to create a more authentic experience for parkgoers.

There is a common misconception that the city name marked on the bottom indicates where the bottle was actually made. In general, the city or town name, in most cases, has nothing to do with the location where the bottle itself was manufactured. The city name usually indicates the location where a local soda bottling concern or distribution center was situated, and where the bottles were supposed to be originally circulated.

Some of the larger glass manufacturing companies, such as Owens-Illinois Glass Company and Chattanooga Glass Company, made Coca-Cola bottles (and other soda bottles) for hundreds of different cities around the United States.

I have 3 coke bottles that have Greenville, sc on the bottom. one has small letters. the other two have large letters. one of them has a L in the center. one of the bottles that has the large letters has on the side pat D-105529. It also has 63L51 on the side. the others do not have this number. Do you have any info about these bottles. thank you.

Thanks! Found another UGB COCA COLA LTD and two groups of very faint numbers 44 and ?? as a base mark. All the characters on the base are faint. There is a blank field where all the details go between the skirt and the shoulder. Clear glass. Would you know when a printed and not embossed bottle would have been made by UGB? THX again!

I recently found a green bottle with nothing but the words.. Return To The Bottler Of Coca Cola no numbers or letters on the bottom or anywhere else. Any info on this bottle would be very helpful. I have had no luck finding this exact one anywhere on line. Most have skinnier necks where this one is fatter.

Is there a listing of all the cities that Coke bottles had embossed on the bottom. We collect sea glass and find partial bottle bottoms and it would be helpful to figure out what some of the cities are.

In addition, Coca-Cola is also releasing "premium" one litre glass bottles of Coca-Cola and Diet Coke "for those seeking an extra-special treat for their Christmas dinner table," the company said in a press release.

Have you ever found an old soda bottle and wondered just how old it really was? One aspect of collecting old bottles that I have always enjoyed is age-dating them. When it comes to dating older Coca-Cola bottles issued in the United States, there are several telltale features that I rely upon. First of these is bottle shape: Is the bottle contour shaped, straight sided, or the distinctive Hutchinson patent style? Once this determination has been made, there are a number of other features that can often reveal the manufacture year.

With few exceptions, contour Coca-Cola bottles manufactured before the mid-1960s are labeled entirely with embossed lettering. Thus, an embossed Coke bottle is almost always older than a painted-label one. Contour Coke bottles first appeared in about 1916, when blown-in-the-mold bottles were being replaced by early machine-made bottles. Contour Coke bottles with embossed lettering and no painted label will therefore date between 1916 and about 1965. Various distinguishing features may be identified on individual bottles to date with greater precision nearly all bottles from this 50-year period.

In the case of contour Coke bottles from 1938 and earlier, some will have date marks, and some will not. Some date marks for bottles from the 1930s and late 1920s will appear as embossed two-digit numbers on the waist. In other instances, bottles from the 1930s, as well as some dating back to around 1916, will have date marks found as small two-digit numerals embossed on the heel (the smooth bottom rim at the base of the bottle). It is best to search for these date marks with a magnifying glass and good light as they are easily overlooked and, even when found, seldom easy to decipher. 041b061a72
